Idea of North a capella and everyone's cup of tea
A capella. A love affair.
If I hadn't already been converted, I would have been after recently seeing Idea of North at the City Recital Hall in Angel Place.
City Recital Hall, for readers who don't know, is located near Martin Place (with easy train and bus access), a venue worth visiting. Rendered in a foundry of sound, producing amazing acoustics and gorgeous surrounds to seat you comfortably and whisk you away on a sensual journey.
I sat there, lights down in anticipation and on they walked in monk's habits! "This must be the Gregorian chant part" I whispered to my friend. "I never would have guessed" she whispered back and we laughed and carried on laughing the whole concert long.
Cue the lights, laughter and rhapsody and an hour and a half of entrancing, simply wonderful and often hilarious enveloping music ensued.
Idea of North
Firing quips at one another, using props and costumes to introduce melodic, comedic theatrical harmonies. Just magnificent.
Not only are Idea of North super talented, but they're also funny as well.
They are just absolutely fantastic.
If you are on the lookout for a quirky, harmonious, slightly eccentric experience, with an edge, (you know, something different to impress your friends with your 'a bit out there' personality), I'd line up tickets to see the incredibly brilliant, multi ARIA award-winning vocal group, Idea of North (a cappella with a cult following).
Their next gig in Sydney, A Prelude In Tea Series, is at the Independent Theatre, North Sydney, on November 10th, afternoon tea from 2.30pm, concert at 3.30pm. See, now that's going to be something different to impress your friends, family/first date with.
I love a cappella, it's clever and difficult and yet Idea of North deliver it smoothly and effortlessly. Rolling from one note to the next as deliciously as the afternoon tea will be on Sunday.
