We began our night in the Conservatory, a statement that I never thought I'd be able to say. Who knew that one could still begin their night in the conservatory, outside of a game of Cluedo? The conservatory had a lovely open atmosphere. We sat enjoying our drinks and the captivating live entertainment. It just again shows that there is still unacknowledged talent performing in Perth.

I'd recommend the Conservatory for couples and groups, but it wouldn't be a place I'd race to take the family out to. The cocktails were good, but pricey. The service was generally good, although one member of our group had a slight issue getting her change after paying for her cocktails. It was an issue easily rectified although a little awkward.

The night then eagerly continued in The Café Restaurant with the buffet dinner. I'd freely admit that I'm a sceptic about buffets, they seem to just encourage me to destroy my diet so that I ensure I get my money's worth. But if you're going to splurge it may as well be on something good, and I'm glad that it was on this.

The Café's buffet consists of three main stations: the deli counter, the show kitchen and the dessert bar. The deli counter hosted an array of cheeses, cold meats, and antipastos. Add to that the fresh seafood of prawns and crab, and I was satisfied. The show kitchen serves the restaurant's hot food, in particular the succulent steaks, lamb chops and grilled fish. My personal favourite was the gnocchi. And being winter there was a hardy choice of winter vegetables which I also happily consumed.

However, those of you with a sweet tooth will be pleased to know that the dessert bar was sensational. I was spoilt for choice, between the mini-tarts, cakes, shooter desserts, ice cream, and fruit. Who am I kidding, the fruit looked fantastic, but I didn't touch it. In the spirit of true food-venturing and diet abandonment there's plenty of recommendations. The cake with some sort of pistachio centre. The miniature lemon meringue pies. The tiramisu in a shooter glass (hence the earlier term, shooter desserts), is actually the best I've eaten yet.

The service in The Café was markedly better than the Conservatory's, to be brutally honest. The host was charming and the servers were all prompt and polite. The bill was our return to reality however. Although, to be fair, a decent night out doesn't come cheap. And neither does a buffet dinner outside of Sizzler. And this was a very decent night out.

So, we ate like royalty and had our merriment. The décor and atmosphere was again lovely. I know this has little to do with anything, but I feel I should state that the seating was extremely comfortable. Between that and the food, it was little wonder that our group wasn't planning on moving on any time soon.

Further research revealed that The Hyatt also holds an apparently amazing high tea. That's going on the 'To Do List'.
