[SECTION]One of the Better Buffets in Perth[/SECTION]

There are buffets, and there are buffets! But one buffet in Perth stands out from the rest. While I would like to say they excel at one thing, they actually excel at a few things; the range of seafood, and their delectable desserts.I am talking about the , Adelaide Terrace Perth, and although I have tried several other very good ones, this one always wins, hands down, with consistently good food with no expense spared.

[SECTION]Entree and Seafood[/SECTION]

Let me begin with the seafood, which is what I always start off with. It is normally difficult not to take more than a few of the plump juicy oysters on offer, however, at the current time, there is a problem with the well-known brand, Coffin Bay Oysters, so these are not available. I therefore took more than a few prawns. They also have crab, which tastes great but is more difficult to eat than oysters.

Along with these, there is what could only be Huon smoked salmon (recognised as the best we have), as well as those juicy, just cooked to perfection prawns which are a hit with so many. There is a choice of several condiments to go with this seafood and I took tartare sauce as well as one other.

A finger bowl is always included, so there is no reason not to go back and back to this section which also has seafood salads, including a prawn and a squid salad. My friend took a bit more than I did, and she also came back with some of the salads.

I had crab, prawns, prawn salad, smoked salmon and squid salad.

I always try to take small serves, so that I can come back and eat the very best of what I have eaten in the first round, and this time, I went back for more smoked salmon and the prawn salad.

You could also make up your own salad with more condiments ready to be mixed.

And now I move on to the next course.

[SECTION]Hot Food[/SECTION]

This is always a delight with a good range, including meat carved while you wait, and fresh looking foods.

One of the choices was a very tender lamb cooked in a sauce.

Also on offer were many varieties of vegetables, including pumpkin, a broccoli dish, eggplant cooked in a tomato sauce, roast potatoes, and more.

There was also a choice of pizza, garlic chicken, fish, pasta, a lovely curry type beef (not hot) and once again, more!

Roast meat was being carved as you needed it, though I chose not to have this.

I had some fish, pasta, pizza, baked potatoes, pumpkin, garlic chicken and, although I do not eat red meat generally, I did try one of the beef dishes, which was delicious.

My friend had similar to what I had, though she also had some salad again, with some of the condiments, as well as the roast pork.

The staff serving these are friendly and helpful, and always ready to tell you what each dish is. Vegetarians are also catered for here as there are several non-meat dishes, as well as the array of vegetables.

They also have several different bread and rolls, as well as salads you can make up yourself. I skipped most of this section as this is food I can eat easily at home, or elsewhere, although it was difficult to walk past the bread.

After deciding we were terribly "full", we just HAD to proceed to one of the best parts, which is the dessert bar.

[SECTION]The Fabulous Dessert Bar[/SECTION]

The dessert bar at the Hyatt has long been renowned as the very best in Perth. Spanning several counters, this is displayed to perfection.

With its "shot" glasses of different creations, this enables the sweet tooth to eat a bit of everything. Of course "everything" is a slight exaggeration as I think even for me, it would be impossible to try everything in this area as there are far too many different sweets for one person to try them all. Nevertheless, over the years I have attempted this!

I, of course, being a sweet tooth and therefore borderline diabetic, could just not help myself, and came out with passionfruit creme brulee, lime pudding, creme caramel, sticky date pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla custard (yum), with a slab of chocolate.

By this time we thought we should slow down, so we could fit more desserts in, but this resolve lasted only about 6 minutes when my greedy self could sit no more.

Back we went for a second lot and this time I tried their passionfruit cheesecake, lemon meringue, and strawberry tart.

I will not write what happened after that however, it is not hard to guess what a greedy person would do next, suffice it to show you a few more pictures.

There were still more not in this article, and also an array of ice creams which I DID NOT attempt to eat any of.

Then I spotted the cheeses, and they always have the best tasting Camembert cheese, plus a few others that shall remain nameless, and I unashamedly helped myself to some cheese, and just a few crackers to go with it.

By this time, we were finding it difficult to breathe and could not finish our cheese and biscuits. Coffee is not included, however you can order this separately, and we had this with our cheese and biscuits.

I go to the Hyatt Cafe every year with a small circle of friends to celebrate my birthday, and in the 12 or so years I have been doing this, the quality is always of a high standard.

I cannot recommend this Cafe enough! I have tried two other similar ones and although they were good, they were not quite of the same standard as The Cafe On Hyatt.

Situated near the top of the escalators, or in the lobby near reception, the chairs are comfortable and it is quite a large restaurant and not quite as noisy as a lot of other restaurants.

You can have a buffet for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and we had lunch, which was on special at Groupon online for $32.50 per person down from just under $50. Still, at $50 it is a bargain and particularly if you love seafood which is so expensive at restaurants.

Head on down to the Hyatt Regency at 99 Adelaide Terrace, Perth, for one of the better buffet in town - parking is available on the street for 3 hours, or they have a car park underneath which is very convenient, however expensive.

Visit their web page here to find out more, and make an online booking.
