The House of Magic tells the story of Thunder, an adorable ginger kitten who is abandoned by his family when they move to a new house. Lost and confused, Thunder ends up stumbling upon an old house owned by an ageing magician and guarded by his pet rabbit and mouse--neither of whom are particularly fond of the idea of Thunder coming to stay.

Thunder runs into trouble when he unwittingly causes the old magician to have a bicycle accident that puts him in hospital. As well as trying to find a place in the house despite hostility from Jack the rabbit and Maggie the house, Thunder must try and save the house and its magical, mechanical inhabitants from the magicians evil nephew.

The movie certainly has its share of funny and sweet moments; and while the plot is fairly predictable, it's enough to keep younger kids interested and entertained. The plot and character development aren't quite enough to keep too many adults particularly interested, and there aren't many of those secret 'fun for adult' jokes that are hidden amongst many animated children's films.

While the film is probably best enjoyed by younger audiences, there are a few scary moments that may have them hiding their eyes and there is a bit of violence in the film (nothing extreme).

The House of Magic may not be the film of the year, but its a warm and fuzzy film that will dazzle younger kids. It's perfect if you need an all round family film to keep the kids occupied over the school holidays.
