Wellington's historic Embassy Theatre , originally built in 1926, hosted the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - and there is still time to catch the movie.

This tale of swords and sorcery begins when the wizard Gandalf the Grey calls on home-loving Hobbit Bilbo Baggins to help a band of dwarves reclaim their lost kingdom of Erebor from the clutches of the dragon Smaug.

Their journey takes them through wild and treacherous territory where they encounter elves, take on a gang of goblins and battle with an army of orcs.

At 2 hours 49 minutes, this is a movie of epic proportions, but director Peter Jackson manages to keep up the pace and hold the viewers' interest with a variety of colourful characters, action scenes and special effects.

The film is showing at the cinema in 2D and 3D, at various times, until 16th January. Prices vary according to film type and times.
