The Hawthorn Hotel

Located in Hawthorn's leafy Swinburne University precinct, The Hawthorn Hotel is at an advantage to become one of the favourite spots among the student population. However, in my opinion, the price is quite expensive for pub meals, but there are happy hours on certain days so you can get a cheaper price for a steak and parma. For example, on Monday, it offers $14 Steak (the usual price is around $30) while on Thursday it has $13 Parma which is actually a decent parma and is worth it, since the usual price is around $20. On Friday at 7pm, they offer a buy one meal get one meal free special program too.

For music lover, there are live bands, originals and covers and a DJ playing retro, RnB or top 40 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. On Wednesday you can try to enjoy a free game of pool all day while having a beer with friends. Footy lovers have their own day to sit back and watch the Footy on the big screen on Sunday, with $13 jugs of cider and $8 Smirnoff, it's enough to make you ready to fight the blue Monday again.

Beside the special programs, the venue itself doesn't really stand out and a bit under-lit. However, The Hawthorn Hotel has an award winning outdoor decked beer garden complete with a barbecue area where it is a better place to spend a sunny afternoon or book it out for a private function.

By night the venue transforms itself into a hub for live music and entertainment. The famous event among students is Tightarse Tuesdays which is a Melbourne biggest Uni night in Hawthorn. It offers a free entry every Tuesday, new tightarse drink specials, open beer garden and big screen. It attracts students because because we know that students are poor and need cheap stuff while keeping them 'dance happy' all night with live DJ and bands. Come down at 8pm if you don't want to line up about 100 metres down the street. It is a recommended night out for students to socialise and (hopefully) forget about your studies for a while!

All you need to do is bring yourself with a fun mood and indeed, an ID.
