Get in the sun, have fun and hopefully set a world record
There's nothing more patriotic that the beach, a pair of thongs and Australia Day. Get ready for the most Aussie thing you an Aussie could ever hope to do - participate in the Havaianas Australia Day Thong Challenge 2014 @ Mooloolaba. The fun, annual challenge pits state against state in the quest to break a world record. Bondi. Cottesloe. Glenelg and Torquay - consider yourselves challenged.
If this doesn't celebrate Australia Day I don't know what will.
This is a family-friendly day attracting thousands of people to its various locations. The main goal at each location is to set the new world record for the largest number of giant inflatable Havaianas out on the ocean. The record was first set back in 2006 - and they've managed to beat it five times so far. Western Australia's the current record holder with 2093 participants.
While there's plenty of fun to be had on the day, there's also plenty of fundraising going on in the background. In fact, $10 from every beach registration is donated back to the local surf life saving club for each participating beach. For the Sunshine Coast, that's Mooloolaba SLSC.
You don't even have to hit Mooloolaba beach to join in with the fun. This year you can host a backyard BBQ and create your own challenge at home. For $120 you get four of your own giant inflatable Havaianas along with streamers,a ball and a Frisbee - everything you need for an awesome Australia Day.
Mate against mate, state against state.
