Sometimes it can be hard to decide what to do on a night out. Dinner, maybe a few relaxed drinks at a bar, or perhaps a game of pool, instead? What if you could combine all three in one place? Well, The Harbour Terrace has got you covered. As the newest edition at Hillary's Boat Harbour, The Harbour Terrace puts a modern and sophisticated spin on classic pool halls, while still keeping a relaxed attitude.

Its interior sets The Harbour Terrace apart from other pool halls, including Pot Black which it replaced in 2010. There are suede couches and ottomans in dark shades combined with wooden tables and - my favourite part - chandeliers over the pool tables. Sure, chandeliers might seem a bit over the top but to me they create the perfect ambience and, hey, who doesn't love a little olden day's class?

Now I will admit I am completely devoid of skill when it comes to sinking those little coloured balls but for $2 a game you can't really go wrong. And by playing with equally unskilled friends my games can last up to an hour. Now that's value for money. Plus, if you don't want to leave your game and move to the dining area to eat, you can always have the food come to you.

The lunch and dinner menus offer modern Australian meals including the Wagyu Burger with bacon, Crispy Skinned Barramundi, and a selection of pizzas, as well as several shared meals (in particular the Terrace Plate, with Turkish bread, calamari, cacciatore, fetta and olives). On average a meal will set you back between $20 - $40, pretty decent if you ask me.

While it's perfectly acceptable to stroll in from the Boat Harbour in shorts and thongs during the day, if you're heading there at night you'll want to be a little dressier to fit in with their smart-casual dress code (best to throw on some real shoes). If you're there on a Saturday you'll also be treated to some live music. The bar offers all your standards - beer, wine, spirits, and cocktails that start from around $15. Although if you're heading down that road I can tell you now your pool skills will also start heading downhill, hopefully just not as downhill as mine.

One of the best venues around IMO. My fave is The Harbour Terrace signature cocktail.
