'Tis the season to go shopping. You could combat the crowds at the shopping centre, or you could visit one of Brisbane's many markets to purchase original, handcrafted gifts. The Handmade Expo Market at Bundamba is one of Brisbane's biggest and best.
Founded in 2008 by a mother, Miriam, and her twin daughters, Micky and Liesa, what began with a passion for markets and handmade goods, has evolved into a monthly market with over 100 stalls of handmade, handbaked, or handgrown items.
Held each month at the Ipswich Turf Club on Brisbane Road, near Ipswich, if you have yet to visit the Handmade Expo, this is the best time of the year. Christmas shoppers will be able to browse more than 140 stalls selling jewellery, fashion, candles, soaps, pottery, preserves, and fresh produce. Grab a bite to eat at one of the fabulous food stalls offering coffee, cupcakes, dumplings, wood-fired pizzas, German sausages, hot chips, and snow cones. Kids can get their face painted, or take a trip on the Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway. The thirty minute return trip leaves Bundamba Racecourse and travels to Box Flat. A family ticket costs $22.
