Celebrating my partner's first father's day this year and because he is working on the actual day, we decided to celebrate it early and give him a taste of his German Heritage and eat at the Hahndorf Inn.
We were welcomed in by a friendly lady at the door, congratulating us on our new baby and showing us the way through to a table with plenty of room for our stroller.
Having briefly worked there as a waitress in my teens, I had wonderful memories of huge hearty and flavoursome meals in my breaks and couldn't wait to order.
We all ordered the Potato, Bacon and Leek Soup which arrived pretty quickly but we then had to request the bread rolls that were meant to come with the soup but didn't. The soup was nice but a little heavy on the garlic.
We then proceeded on to mains each ordering a meal. My partner ordered the mix grill which is a very German influenced meal, I ordered the chicken breast with sundried tomato, spinach and fetta and my sister ordered the 200g scotch fillet medium rare.
Listening to annoyingly repetitive German music, we waited over half an hour for our mains to arrive, only to find the chicken dry and the steak tough. The only thing the meals had going for them was that the portion size was incredibly huge. Considering that it was about $30 for each meal, I was pretty disappointed.
My sister called a waiter over and showed him the well overdone steak. He did offer to send it back, however after waiting so long to get the meal in the first place, he didn't recommend it and offered her a free coffee and cake instead.
Being totally disappointed in the food, none of us finished our meals. We were given a discount of $30 on the total bill and the staff were very polite, however it is definitely not enough incentive for me to ever return again.
After posting my disappointment on my Facebook page, I was surprised to find an influx of comments from friends who had also eaten there and been let down by the low quality food, describing their rice as gluggy and curry having a "skin" on it.
I would not recommend this restaurant and quoting a Facebook friend's comment, "I've had fresher meals from McDonalds."
Yes I went there last Friday (31/8/12) with work (i work with people with disabilities) and was disappointed with the quality not quantity, i ordered the chicken burger was was enormously over sized...it had no flavour at all. I felt like all i was eating was bread as the bun was so huge, i cut away most the bun and ate most of the filling , but at $20 not worth it. And yes the music was so annoying, The toilets, 2 cubicles in the ladies and so tiny and hard to move around and no disabled toilets! won't be going back!!!
