Established in 1883, The Hackney Hotel along Hackney Road offers both pub-style food and dishes that you can expect to see at a more formal setting. Aside from its main menu, the hotel also offers a selection of daily specials.
One of the specials that were available during our visit, their Smoked Salmon Sandwich had smoked salmon with the right degree of smokiness and avocado hummus that gave the dish a Mexican flair. Freshness was provided by the red onion and rocket, and the Turkish bread was toasted to the perfect degree. Accompanying the sandwich were steak chips fried to golden brown with the right amount of salt.

We liked that the grilled chicken in the Chilli Chicken Burger was succulent. The degree of spiciness was suitable for most palates. Helping to balance out the spiciness were carrots, cucumber and mixed leaves which were all tied together nicely by the basil pesto mayonnaise. Like the Smoked Salmon Sandwich, their Chilli Chicken Burger came with a serving of chips.

Though it may not look like it at first, the portion size of the Seafood Paella was actually enough to be filling. We liked that all the seafood featured did not have a "fishy" taste. There was a hint of smokiness from the chorizo. Freshness was provided by the roasted capsicum and peas and the saffron rice carried a lot of flavour. Those who want to add some tanginess can squeeze the lemon wedge over the dish before consuming it.
Seniors who visit during lunchtime on weekdays can enjoy a selection of dishes that goes for a discounted price. Diners have the choice of seating in the restaurant or at the bar area. The hotel's carpark offers an ample amount of off-street parking space.
