After sell-out seasons across the world, including London's West End & Broadway, The Gruffalo returns to Australia.

This show, presented by CDP Theatre Producers, is based on the award-winning picture book by Julia Donaldson, writer and playwright and Axel Scheffler, and it tells the story about a mouse who took a stroll through the deep, dark woods ...

It is a rhyming story of a mouse and a monster - little mouse goes for a walk in a dangerous forest and to scare off his enemies, he invents tales of a fantastical creature called the Gruffalo. So imagine his surprise when he meets the real Gruffalo.

While searching for hazelnuts, Mouse meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the party mad Snake.

The question is - will the story of the terrifying Gruffalo save Mouse from ending up as dinner for these hungry woodland creatures? After all, there's no such thing as a Gruffalo – is there?

Join Mouse on a daring adventure through the deep, dark woods in this magical, musical adaptation of the classic picture book.

There will be songs, laughs and scary fun for children aged 3 and their grown-ups.

It has been described as:

"Funny, charming and smart… brings the house down" - Sydney Morning Herald

"Beg, borrow or steal tickets. Your kids will love you for it" - Stage Whispers

The Gruffalo is, as already mentioned, a children's book by writer and playwright Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, that tells the story of a mouse, the protagonist of the book, who takes a walk in a European forest.

The book has sold over 13 million copies, has won several prizes for children's literature and has been developed into plays on both the West End and Broadway.

The Gruffalo was initially published in 1999 in the United Kingdom by Macmillan Children's Books and then it was a 32-page hardback edition.

It was then followed six months later by a paperback edition and eventually brought out in a small-format soft cover book. It was stated as suitable for readers aged three to seven and is approximately 700 words long.

The story is written in "rhyming couplets", and features repetitive verse with minor variance.

Now you can see the story come to life in this great live production, which runs for about 55 minutes! If you want to get an idea of this story before you go to the play, or look at it again after, here is a great version of the book, read out loud:
