With A Name Like That They'd Have To Be Groovy

A receptionist and enthusiastic waiter welcomed us. He had just started his job the day before and it showed. I'm sure that if we asked the waiter to do a tap dance, he would have very happily obliged.

I have never eaten at this franchise before but I'm now an admirer of the many menu items and the standout was the oversized tempting desserts (from $8.50). I wish I had spotted these deserts before I ordered two entrees. According to my daughter, I showed too much enthusiasm for the cocktails ($14).

Which would you pick?

The Groove Train has an extensive menu with breakfast, such as eggs, muesli and toast and they cater for children. I was impressed that there were seven items on the kid's menu. The Groove Train starts lunch from 11.30. Also on the menu, you can enjoy coffee and cake, pasta, risotto, soups, wood-fired pizza (from $18.90), wok dishes, steaks, all around $27.

If you're really hungry, you could try the mixed grill plate which includes sirloin steak, lamb fillets, bacon, chicken tenderloins, Italian pork sausages and chips for $37.90 or the Fishman's basket which includes beer battered fish fillets, marinated grilled tiger prawns, scallops, salt-and-pepper calamari, salad, Tartare sauce and lemon for $33.50.

Polenta chips

We were on our way out and stopped for something small. We ended up ordering the polenta chips for just $10.90. There were nine large chips covered in a coating of semolina, which were very filling. I confess we also ordered the eggplant chips when we'd already probably had enough. These were served with balsamic reduction and a very tasty Aioli ($13.90). Apart from the food, the service was noteworthy. The staff to customers ratio was very high and it looked like they had just been trained to smile and be attentive.

Look out for their specials. Ask the waiter for a card and you can join up on-line and eat free on your birthday. They also offer 10% off bills Monday through to Thursday, for every hot beverage you buy you receive one for free and other prizes and giveaways.
