The Grill is a licensed restaurant located at the The Sebel Pelican Waters Golf Resort & Spa, just 15 minutes from Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast. It serves modern Australian meals with an emphasis on seafood, local produce and, as the name suggests, big and juicy flame-grilled steaks. As soon as you walk into the foyer and see the cascading water features on the outside patio, you know it is going to be a relaxing and upmarket dining experience. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is enjoyed by guests of the hotel, golfers and the general public, who can book a table and enjoy the tropical surrounds of this scenic resort.

Our family visited The Grill for lunch on a recent holiday to the Sunshine Coast and we were warmly welcomed and shown to a table by the window, which caught the glorious winter sun. If you wish to sit outside there is also a spacious patio area with umbrellas, for long lunches and leisurely sunset cocktails with friends. For us however, we were happy to sit inside, sip on our icy cold drinks and relax in our corner table sun-trap. After arriving from Canberra, we were soaking up every ray of warmth and sunshine we could get. How could this be winter?

The menu for lunch was varied, with a wide range of meal options including Beef Cheek Spring Rolls ($17), Wagyu Beef Burger ($18), Confit Octopus Tentacle ($19) and Coral Coast Barramundi Fillet ($34). We decided to choose the Beer Battered Local Whiting Fillets ($23) and Chimmichurri Chicken Burger ($18) - both of which came with chips so that our daughter could pick at the chips, as she said she wasn't very hungry. If you have kids who are eager to have their own meal however, they have a full children's menu for under 12's, with a mini magnum ice-cream for dessert - guaranteed to please.

When our meals arrived, we were more than impressed with their size. The whiting and chips were particularly delicious. The batter on the fish was crunchy, the flesh was moist, the chips were moreish and the crisp garden salad cut through the flavours beautifully. The burger was also tasty and jam-packed full of flavour, however it was the chips and creamy aioli sauce that had us all reaching back for more - particularly our daughter. For someone who wasn't hungry, she certainly put away a lot.

If you are a local in the area, on holidays, or are looking for somewhere different for a special occasion, also check out their Facebook page for special event menus and weekend specials, for both lunch and dinner. The Grill is a venue that has it all - excellent customer service and outstanding food. It is a place that instantly makes you slow down and relax as if you're on holidays, even if you're not.

We weren't sure before we arrived whether The Grill would be "kid-friendly". However, the staff were accommodating and happy to welcome everyone who walked in the door. If you have smaller kids however, I would recommend sitting outside so you can explore the water features and walk down the stairs and look for waterbirds and fish in the lagoon area, while you wait for your meal. My daughter and I did this while we waited and it was a highlight of our visit, with birds wading by the shoreline and grass to run around on to let off some energy. Our lunch-time experience at the start of our holiday was the best way to wind down and appreciate the stunning Sunshine Coast weather and tropical lifestyle.

Why would you want to be anywhere else?
