If you're after a weekend bike ride with the kids or a nice scenic walk, then you should try the Fassifern to Toronto Greenway track. It starts at Fassifern train station and runs three kilometres ending at Lake Macquarie in Toronto. There are several access points to the track from adjoining streets and it leads you right past the small Blackalls Park shopping complex.

There's plenty of bushland to see as it winds along beside the old railway tracks. If you wander down into one of the cleared areas, you get a great view of the lake with plenty of black swans floating on the surface. From about October onwards you may see some cygnets (baby swans) accompanying them as well.

The Greenway track has a friendly atmosphere, with other dog walkers, joggers and bike riders happy to greet you on your way past. It's very relaxing to walk over one of the little bridges that cross the small waterways, with the local wildlife chirping you on.

I highly recommend the track if you want a safe area to walk off the main roads and get closer to nature.
