I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.
Formerly known as The Hamilton Hotel when built by Tooth & Co in 1936, this hotel has long been known by locals as The Greenroof. It is a true local pub that offers entertainment, food, drinks and accommodation.
The food of Greenroof Kitchen is by Newcastle catering legends Ron & Raf. The menu contains the usual steak, schnitzel and battered fish but also has interesting tasting plates of cured kingfish, Japanese popcorn chicken, fish tacos and dumplings.
From 12-2pm, Monday to Friday, they have great value $15 lunch specials with a free lunch raffle on Fridays. There are a variety of areas to dine in, including a relaxed beer garden full of quirky curios and a cocktail deck. The meals are tasty and filling and very popular with locals. Children are catered for with a fun playroom and $14 meals including a paddle pop dessert.
Entertainment ranges from live music, trivia, gaming, big screen NRL and trivia nights. Small functions to large events can be catered for and it is even possible to book the whole first floor for $899 on Saturday nights to accommodate a group of 13. The rooms are reasonably priced pub-style accommodation (shared bathrooms) that include free WiFi and air conditioning.
