I decided to make the effort to do my washing and remembered this little laundrette I had seen tucked behind a local shopping centre. They had a cafe too if I recall correctly, I'll go there.

If your worried about the environmental impact of washing, this is the laundry to do your washing in. The owner has taken the time and effort to create an environmentally sustainable laundry. With filtered rainwater, the latest energy efficient washing machines. Theres chai latte and wifi available too.

So, here I sit, with my laptop connected to their wifi. My washing on and a soy chai latte whilst I type away.Where am I? The sign on the door says Green Laundry, Internet Cafe. I like green. yet everyone now says they are eco something, so it probably doesn't mean anything. I look a bit more closely at the place.

The philosophy of the business is described as such -

GREEN

We wholeheartedly believe in ecologically sustainable business. We use a filtered rain water system for our laundry services. Our laundry machines are state of the art front loading and have the highest energy efficiency currently available on the market."

Ok, so you have energy efficient washing machines. The filtered rainwater sounds good.

All our washing detergents are biodegradable, free of petrochemicals and allergens. We only serve organic Fair-trade coffee and tea from Global Cafe Direct."

Umm, this is beginning to sound a bit like the real deal.

The chai is good, the clothes are washed in an energy efficient washing machine in rain water, I've had great wifi to write this little review from and all powered from an eco power service. The proprietor makes your coffee and introduces you to the laundry machines, how they work and provides change for the inexpensive and brilliantly clean well serviced laundrette.

You can even measure your height against the wall measure whilst waiting for your coffee. Newspapers and magazines are provided and a chemical free, carbon neutral dry cleaning service. This is all l housed in an eco painted building where there is free parking and a fast fact added on the window in front of me tells me that "100km sq of solar panels is enough for the planets current power needs. Ha."

Umm an insightful and challenging thought for those other planet destroying energy companies.

And where is this clean green laundrette internet cafe?

45 Nelson Street Balaclava, Victoria 3183. Australia.

Open 7 days a week 7am to 10pm for self service laundry, with the cafe open from 7am to 5pm and a laundry service available Mon to Sat. Take your own laptop for free wifi or use the laptops available during cafe opening hours for $3 per hour. A normal wash load costs $4 per load and the dryers are $1 for 9 minutes.

Do you have a green laundry near you?(If so, please add the business and location in the comments area.)

If you live around the Balaclava area, make the effort to visit the GREEN LAUNDRY @ CAFE and a support local eco business. They really have made the effort here.
