The Greats, proudly presented by the Art Gallery of NSW as part of the Sydney International Art Series, comprises of over 70 of paintings, drawings and watercolours that come exclusively from the National Galleries of Scotland, deriving from artists such as Botticelli, Titian, Rembrandt and Veronese. Exploring theological and mythological themes, the exhibition presents masterpieces that highlight the aesthetic nature of landscapes and prominent figures, showcasing the finest portraits that range from c1485 to c1904.



An assortment of prestigious pieces from Renaissance to Impressionism, two works will be presented in Australia for the first time, including The Virgin adoring the sleeping Christ child by Botticelli. I visited the illustrious Art Gallery of NSW to witness the exhibition and captured by the five, immense banners which draped the entrance, it definitely excited me to see Masterpieces From The National Galleries of Scotland. I began with Botticelli's The Virgin adoring the sleeping Christ child and continued the exhibition listening to the free audio guide as it deconstructs and analyses the artworks on display. Other art enthusiasts I observed would silently listen or gaze at the pieces and discuss artworks with others. Perfect for any individual, the exhibition also offers the Children's Trail which provides exercises for children to participate and engage with the artworks. The exhibition was such a delight to see, an enriching display that is perfect for all ages, a must-see for art lovers in Sydney!
