Come along on this two day train journey- great fun
The Grainlander Train is a heritage train trip from Melbourne on the mainline rail network in Victoria. It is subject to fire ban restrictions, and the heritage air-conditioned train is pulled by ex-Victorian Railways steam locomotive R707 or the City of Melbourne.
Welcome to 707 Operations Inc. and Vintage Rail Travel who, together, will be running The Grainlander.
707 Operations Inc. is excited to announce that you are now able to book on The Grainlander, with their next overnight sleeping carriage excursion travelling from Melbourne to Sea Lake, Victoria and return.
This diesel hauled train will be departing from Melbourne, from Southern Cross at 10.00 pm on Friday the 6th of September 2019, and travelling overnight through Ballarat and Maryborough to reach Sea Lake on Saturday before noon.
Earlier in the day before that you depart, Steam Locomotive R 707 will travel to Maryborough on its own. It will be running tender first, and then from Maryborough, it will join in assisting on the journey to Sea Lake. Can anyone remember when they last took a working steam locomotive to Sea Lake?
On the return journey from Sea Lake, the mighty Hudson R 707 will be in charge, and leading the train to Wycheproof, Victoria for your overnight stop!
While it will be in Wycheproof, all guests will join up with coaches so that they will be able to explore the now-famous Mallee region's Silo Art Trail. There will be some selected stops to see some of the artwork on display, and you will see some disused grain silo's having a new lease of life. The amazing silo at @Brim Silo Art will be the main visit.
Then on Sunday, you return from Wycheproof to Melbourne with the R class again pulling the train throughout the entire journey. The end of the fabulous trip will be at Melbourne, Southern Cross Station at 9.00 pm on Sunday the 8th of September.
Included in the fare is your sleeping berth rail fare as well as all meals for the excursion, all bedding, linen and towels. There is quite a differing range of sleeping berth fares available for this excursion, with each sleeping carriage offers different facilities for your comfort.
You could travel in real style in the premium NAM, which is a twinette for two. Or you could go on the LAN roomette which is a berth for one on the Southern Aurora carriages. The other alternatives are to travel in comfort in standard sleeping compartments in the SJ or VAM carriage. These are non-air-conditioned sleeping carriage WANDO and will also be on the train for those who enjoy travelling in the restored carriage which first constructed for the Victorian Railways in 1923.
This is an extremely popular trip and you will need to book as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. This is especially if you wish to join on The Grainlander to Sea Lake as some sleeping berth carriages have already booked quickly.
