As you enter the veiled doors it feels like you are going back in time, entering a mysterious and magical land. The converted old church is brimming with hidden treasures. You need to allow plenty of time to forage through the handmade and unique treasures.

Phyllis and Marlene are co owners of The Grace of Plenty Treasures. They used to frequent the markets with their arts and crafts but got sick of the packing and unpacking. The old church had been sitting empty for 23 years. They re-stumped, restored and rejuvenated this charming little church and it's now a quaint little gift store full of gems for every shopper and every occasion.

The little church was built in the 1920s and partly funded by local contributions. At that time it was one of the richest in the parish. The old floorboards and wooden wall panels give a glimpse into its former glory.

The stock is extensive, including artwork, knitted goods. scarves and capes, ceramics, glassware, lotions, soaps and natural polishes conserves, relishes and natural honey. There are small pieces such as cards, embroidery, jewellery, and miniature keepsakes to large items including leadlight, mirrors, woodwork, handcrafted furniture and furnishings.

The majority of the stock is local hand-made items on commission. This gives a wonderful opportunity to local artists and craftspeople who would otherwise not have an audience or outlet for their work.

Items can be personalised by name and are unique. It's nice to know you own the only one of its kind or that you can give a gift that no one else will.

I particularly admired the dolls. I imagine they represent a long story and are a timeless gift. The designers have clearly spent many hours tending to every detail. I wonder how they can give them up at a price so much cheaper than a lifeless commercial doll. In my mind there is hardly any competition. These dolls could be treasured and passed on to later generations when others might be broken and discarded.

It is a bit of an adventure going to The Grace of Plenty Treasures. You'd be pretty hard pressed not to find the perfect gift. So grab your treasure map me hearties. You never know what buried treasure you might find.
