Adelaide-girl relocated to Melbourne. Healthy obsession with live music, film and performance, whiskey, wine and gin, Mexican food, brunch.

The Governor Hindmarsh (The Gov) claims to have been "loving live music since 1993." But The Gov should be claiming so much more than that. Sure, it's one of the best live music venues in Adelaide. But it's also got open fires, hearty pub meals and inspired dishes, and possibly the best thing of all, Scrabble Saturdays!

On the city fringe, this establishment has some of the best acts paying a visit in the coming months. You can check out Dan Sultan and his powerful voice and sultry hip shaking, the gentle, pretty sound of Seeker Lover Keeper and rock out with The Vines when they return on a new national tour.

Come early to grab a table and a feed. Menu favourites include the warm chicken salad and steak sandwich and for dessert, try the peach & apricot crumble with English toffee and roasted almond ice-cream (drools).

Of course, if you're in a hurry, just grab the best melted cheese and toasted bread in town. A toastie always satisfies, and is always available.

And after that Friday night gig, head back to the Gov, grab a pint and ease into the day with a friendly game of Scrabble. Then, you're perfectly placed to stick around for the live Afternoon Acapella Singing Session or the free front bar band.

During the week, check out the open Mic Wednesday and pick up a ukulele (under $30 from Allens Music Billy Hyde) so you can join in with the Adelaide Ukulele Appreciation Society.

If The Gov started offering places to crash, I'd have no reason to ever leave.

Love the Gov- I don't go there enough. Hopefully that'll change in 2013 :)
