Golden Lakes provides delicious and affordable Chinese food
The Golden Lakes Chinese Family Restaurant is one of the most popular Chinese experiences in the Western suburbs of Adelaide, providing a family friendly environment to at an affordable price. After being a personal fan of Golden Lakes since their old location on Seaview Road, this was my first venture into their vastly superior location on the cusp of Delfin Island. Their new location is of high standard, producing easier parking locations for customers and a very new yet basic artistic design within the restaurant.
One of the problems with the new restaurant however is the size. This feels very small for the number of tables available and this causes a great deal of commotion when you are trying to enjoy your food. With this being a family restaurant, the sound can be an issue when trying to converse with those on your table during the busy dinner time period. This did lead to a touching moment when one of the children dining was having a birthday and the Golden Lakes had agreed to bring out their cake to sing happy birthday to her. The entire restaurant sang Happy Birthday along with her family making for a very special moment to go along with our dinner.
Golden Lakes also offers take away to customers, being one of the most popular ways to enjoy their cuisine. Providing customers with EFTPOS facilities and the ability to walk in without reservation to be presented with a table, offers even more great options for customers. Our four person strong table had no issue with any of the staff members; they were friendly and offered some good explanation when it came to the foods presented on the menu, which was appreciated.
One of the best reasons for a family to visit Golden Lakes is their banquet option, allowing you to purchase a large banquet offering a great range of dishes, including entrees, mains, desserts and an after dinner coffee. Allowing customers to avoid the challenge of choosing a meal, this platter of sorts gives a nice mix of their best dishes and provides a great variety to share amongst friends.
All these elements of a restaurant are a pleasant bonus, but the reason you visit is for some great food. Golden Lakes not only offers a very affordable menu, but some good food along with it. Their entrées included dim sims and spring rolls, which provided some great flavours before our main meals arrived. The mains themselves looked, smelt and tasted great, and for the price they were of great quality. We also purchased what I believe to be some of the best special fried rice available in Adelaide. My personal recommendation is the deep fried ice cream to indulge your taste buds and end the meal in the best way possible. Golden Lakes may have changed location but they have kept their great flavours alive and well.
The Golden Lakes offers everything you want out of a quality restaurant. If you are hoping for a nice quiet meal the size may hurt the experience depending on the time of your visit. But you will be in for a good meal that doesn't break the budget, plus you can always get your entire meal and bring it home with you with their take away options. Golden Lakes has been able to improve their experience with a fresh building, great location and the same great food that will keep you coming back.
