Are you spellbound by a good ghost story? Do you become enthralled by a thrilling murder mystery? And love a night out at the theatre? The Encore Theatre Company's upcoming production of The Ghost Train will be sure to leave your spine tingling as the story twists and turns until the mysterious revelation at the end.

The Ghost Train is set in the waiting room of a railway station in South Cornwall, where a group of passengers are stranded on a stormy night in the mid-1920s. Ghost stories and whispers of supernatural happenings are not at all out of the ordinary in isolated South Cornwall, and on this dark and gloomy night, the stranded passengers are about to have an evening they will never forget—if they make it out alive….

The Stationmaster anxiously tries to convince the passengers to leave, desperately telling them the tale of the ghost train. The mysterious train is hurtling towards them, and death is imminent for all those who set their eyes upon it. Who will succumb? Who will escape? There are murders and thrills and mysterious adversaries to leave you captivated until all is revealed—with a twist—in the final moments.

Set over a four-hour period, the show personifes a good old-fashioned English murder mystery, full of characters with such marvellously British names as Richard and Elsie Winthrop, Charles and Peggy Murdoch, Herbert Price, Teddie Deakin and the eccentric Miss Bourne, all with equally marvellous British accents to match.

Opening night for The Ghost Train is on Friday 9 October, and performances run until Saturday 24 October. There are evening and matinee performances, with a special gala night on Saturday 17 October. Tickets are $24 each, and $22 for concession (slightly higher on gala night), and can be purchased by phoning 1300 739 099.

Performances of The Ghost Train are held at the Encore Theatre Company's 132-seat theatrette at the Clayton Community Centre in Cooke Street. The theatrette was purpose-built for Encore, and opened in 2008. There is plenty of free parking available, and there are even complimentary drinks on offer prior to the commencement of the show.
