The Gentleman Magician, A Magical Soiree makes a mystical evening of entertainment, childlike amazement and wonder. Hosted at the beautiful Sir Stamford at Circular Quay, the venue adds a touch of history and old world charm to the show. It is, in fact, a magic show, however, a sophisticated one.
Bruce Glen, is an engaging entertainer. This interactive one-man show that runs for just over an hour, with the help of a few ropes, decks of cards and a book or two, will leave you at the edge of your seats feeling bewildered and amazed. I have found that I always leave a magic show happier than I was when I entered the show. It is perhaps because it reignites a curiousness and amazement in me, owing to the logic-defying magic tricks that one watches on stage.
Bruce's acts always have a story within them. Intertwined with the history of Sydney city, inspiration from other great writers and magicians or just the rhyming lines of a poem, the story and the act have a unique way of engaging the audience thoroughly.
My favourite one was the play on English language with trick cards i.e. a whole card and a card with a hole also known as a 'hole card'. The speed and adeptness would have been key to this magic trick and Bruce executed it all so well. Some of Bruce's tricks reminded me of a recent act in the TV show, Britain's Got Talent, and it reinstated the fact that watching a magic show with a story that goes behind it, takes the act to great heights. Bruce involves many of the audience members in his acts as well, letting them experience magic first hand and leaving them stunned and in disbelief at the end of the trick.
Bruce Glen's, A Gentleman Magician at the Sir Stamford at Circular Quay makes a great night of entertainment at a fabulous location. All show goers are also welcomed by the hostess with canapes and a drink prior to the show. Overall, a great night for locals and tourists alike. With close proximity to Circular Quay, there are plenty of after-show dinner and drinks options to choose from to make it a great night.
