The Toxic Garden Gnomes are an underground Brisbane group that formed at high school in '83. They currently employ the same, original line-up. Why not come see them at The Gathering Festival, this Saturday, the 17th September, 2011?
The TGG may well be the longest surviving Brissy band that has done so without enjoying commercial success, although some highlights include; 1985 finalists in Bris Rock Awards, the Spy vs Spy support and later, in the early 90's, they supported Ed Keupper, The Cramps and Skunk Hour.
They also previously held the attendance record at The Orient Hotel until it was broken by Powderfinger around five years later. They played at sunset at the Cow Bay Festival and the Big Top at Woodford the next year.
Firmness With Courtesy', released in 1995, to rave reviews and much delight though 'issues' caused them to put things on hold for a decade or so.
Personally, I just love the song 'Young man with a Horn'. It contains manic, squealing lead licks, a dirty rhythm and a toe-tapping beat, falling away into a great interlude, perfect for ordering another drink or exclaiming to the person next to you, "How great do these guys sound?'
The TGG played at The Zoo in Brisbane in 2007 and again in 2010 and are currently planning a new record and can be seen at The Gathering Festival, this Saturday, the 17th September, 2011. The show is 18 , gates open at 3pm, tickets available from: Oztix.
