Many folk remember the Redlands area and all the farms growing strawberries, vegetables, and so much more in the nutritious red soil of the area. Slowly over the years, many of the farms have disappeared as the housing estates took over. Some farms do still exist, and The Flower Farm at Birkdale is one! There's great history of the family who started out way back in 1979 and are still going strong.
Right now, the gerberas are flowering, along with sunflowers, and others and all on display in the Flower Farm shop, and the display is amazing.
While the shop is open 7 days a week, they also are very busy with their deliveries. You can "shop in-store any day of the week and pick from our farm fresh creations and hand selected local Australian made gifts and sweets."
Why not go on a day out to the area to explore the area! Perhaps at low tide, the family can walk out to King Island off Wellington Point, or have a picnic there, though there are plenty of cafes in the area to dine. There's plenty to do!
Just don't forget to call in to The Flower Farm on Birkdale Road, to purchase your flowers.
Careful dear If it is the open shed one with pick your own out of the coldroom, unfortunately they don’t grow the flowers on site and purchase from else where and resell, a lot of imported product.
The farm is leased to another family.
The Birkdale Flower Farm and Redland Fresh are grown onsite and sold onsite.
I love our real local fresh flowers too, and you can see the difference.
I have been there, they do have beautiful arrangements. Another excellent one is on Boundary Road towards the Cleveland turn off. It’s in a container and you can choose your own to make a posie or purchase an already made up bouquet.
Wow our local farm on your blog xxx. Absolutely love their flowers, they last so long and the joy they bring to my dear ones. My gran is a local nursing home and the Birkdale Farm send all their loose flower excesses for them to do activities with. They are so special, love these guys. I think they are really humble farmers and people every time I meet the owners. I’m a local hair dresser and love my yarns with them. So sweet of you to blog on them. Bec
