It was a dark and stormy Saturday night, and my partner and I were starving and out on a busy Brunswick Street, searching for somewhere not too noisy, not overpriced –just right.

We were lucky because we stumbled upon The Fitz Café, a long standing café right in the heart of Brunswick Street. We were given the option of being near the open fire (and how often do you get that choice in inner city Melbourne) we choose slightly further away and sunk into our comfy chairs and surveyed the specials.

We started off a nice glass of shiraz, the meals all sounded delicious and I settled on the beef braised in red wine with mushrooms, cinnamon and caramelised onion served on mash potato with buttered beans and my partner chose the seed crusted free range chicken breast stuffed with spinach and fetta, oven baked and served with seasonal steamed greens and it was a hard choice to make with many other delicious options. Then there was no talking only eating!

The Fitz also caters for breakfast and lunch and I'm going back for the smashed avocado, asparagus spears, poached eggs, goats cheese and rocket Leaves served on toasted Ciabatta.

This place gets full marks for atmosphere, it's cosy without being too small and each customer has enough space to enjoy their meal. Perfect for a couple's night out.
