One of the many great things about the Mornington Peninsula is its diversity, not only is it a popular tourist destination with wineries, day spas, beautiful beaches and great eateries. Antiques on the Peninsula are a thriving business with people wanting items that have been used, have history and plenty of character, to the unusual or one of a kind objects to be a stand out feature in their interior design.

One of the most unique places is in Dromana. It's not particularly well known like the Tyabb antiques but it's a place that I know I'm going to find something different at a reasonable price.

At you will find a great mix with over 25 stall holders that bring their own personality and expertise to offer really interesting items for sale.

I am always amazed at what can be found here and on this occasion was no different. A relatively new stall has opened that solely deals in vintage medical equipment. Whilst I did find the medical equipment stall a little bit gross and the thought of what all the medical equipment has been through in its lifetime made me feel a little squeamish and unsure if it's appropriate to sell/buy these items, however at the same time I also found it very interesting, with many of the items being what I would expect to see in a medical museum. This stall is certainly different and has been very popular, so it comes down to your own personal taste and opinion.

There are many different items at that include fine china, vintage clothing, retro advertising, glassware, books, vinyl records, tools, outdoor furniture, jewellery, pretty much anything collectable, vintage, retro, antique or flash trash will be on display here and because the prices are reasonable the turn over is high and there is always something new to see.

The person behind is none other than George Amanatidis, or better known as the former owner of the Mornington Antique Centre, or as locals affectionately referred to it as the "shit shed" because of all the pigeon poo. It was demolished to become Masters.

George seemed to have disappeared for a while and has returned as the owner/operator of in 2010. After more than 20 years of dealing with antiques, George is knowledgeable in all areas of antiques and if he doesn't have what you're looking for on display, he may have it stored off site or be able to source the item for you.

I was very happy when I first discovered George had relocated to this double storey building and will keep on being a regular customer at The Factory Antique Market.

Whilst this is not a 'polished' antique centre, that only has top of the range and ridiculously priced items, this is more industrial, retro and affordable 'flash trash' that's cool and a little quirky, but you be the judge. Check out located at 2 Collins Road Dromana (just opposite the south bound Dromana exit on The Mornington Peninsula Freeway) open 7 days a week 9:30 am to 4:45pm.
