Will the Explorers find what they're looking for?

The Stirling Players is kicking off its 2024 season with the Australian premiere of The Explorers' Club - a farcical tale of science, subterfuge and silliness by Nell Benjamin. Tickets are now on sale.

Directed by Emily Currie, The Explorers' Club is written is a ridiculous, bombastic style, reminiscent of the beloved Blackadder, and re-writes a farcical history centred around the late Victorian scientific community.

The Explorers Club has invited Miss Phyllida Spotte-Hume to present the findings from her most recent expedition to an undisclosed location in South America.

This is notable because the place she has said to have been was considered mythical, and she’s a woman.

Will the illustrious 1879 world of British Scientific society allow such a scandal?

Or could it result in a bigger scandal…say treason?

Featuring a stellar ensemble cast including Angela Short, Benny Woodrow, Brendan Clare, David Salter, Gary George, Joshua Coldwell, Ky Speedy, Matt Chapman and Steve Marvanek, audiences can expect a quick-witted, vibrant and fast-paced farce about science, ego, passion and romance.

Bob Peet’s set design will create an opulent and welcoming Victorian gentleman’s club within the Stirling Community Theatre, a homage to the style of the time, with quirky additions thrown in.

Come and join these intrepid adventurers and scientists for a civilised tipple down 'The Explorers Club!' This play has a beating, silly heart that audiences are sure to love.

The strictly limited season of The Explorers Club season runs for 3 weeks from March 22- April 14 with a break for the Easter long weekend. There is a new 3 pm timeslot on Saturdays and Sundays as well.

Saturday: March 23, April 6 at 3pm
Saturday: April 13 at 7.30pm
Sundays: March 24, April 7 at 3pm
