Totally customised to your tastes - a unique experience
Sitting at the pub The Gertrude on the corner of Gertrude and Napier Streets in Fitzroy, we noticed some movement upstairs via a narrow entrance on the opposite side of the street.
We ventured on over and what do we find? An amazing cocktail bar. Entrance to The Everleigh is via Diner (stay tuned - I hear this restaurant is opening up this week by the same guys that own Mamasitas in town). Walk up a couple of flights of stairs and be greeted as you enter a majestic space boasting chandeliers, candles, and a very dim and cosy atmosphere.
Your waitress for the evening will escort you to your booth by candlelight and invite you to browse the menu. But your options don't start and end with there; the menu, whilst extensive, is designed to act only as a bit of inspiration. What The Everleigh really specialises in is customising a drink soley to your tastes. I mentioned that I liked a 'dry, crisp cocktail that had a hint of fruity/freshness'. I was delivered one of the best things I have ever tasted - a gin concoction with cucumber and apples. Perfect for me. And while they love to make you a cocktail to your tastes, they also have a huge range of beers and spirits.
The staff were delightful and you felt they could recite the ingredients of any cocktail in the world. I certainly felt that I was in very capable hands.
The Everleigh was in a beautiful setting, very Gentleman's Club style (although it's definitely a place for both sexes!), and had knowledgeable staff and delicious drinks. This is a cocktail bar to stumble upon next time you're north of the river.
There are so many unique bars and restaurants along Gertrude Street in Fitzroy. I'll certainly be heading there on my next night out!
