The David Jones Foodhall at Market Street in the city is a treasure for any Sydney foodie, and for those people who appreciate and enjoy fine food. If you enter foodie paradise via Westfield Sydney, to your left you will find The Espresso Bar. Along a busy subway you will feel like you have arrived in Europe, especially with the abundance of cupcakes and other sweet treats, and right opposite, a small espresso bar that is The Espresso Bar at David Jones Foodhall.

Just be aware that the prices for some of the items are different on the board next to the front counter, than they are on the menus at the table. The prices on the menus at the tables are correct. You also need to know that you order your items at the front counter. You are then given a table number, and you food and/or drink is brought out to you.

The iced coffee ($5.95) at first glance appears to be on the pricey end, however once you take that first sip, the coffee and milk combinations are equally balanced. Just have a couple of serviettes with you in case any of your drink spills down the side of the cup, especially when you dig into the scrumptious vanilla ice cream. If you want to take longer than ten minutes to devour, that is ideal.

The spinach, ricotta and tomato toastie ($6.95) with farmhouse bread, rocket and vinegar just hit the spot. The bread is rather crunchy, and despite the bread being white bread, it does not feel like you're tucking into two slices of white toast. Rather it looks like a toasted croissant yet healthier for you. The ricotta blends in nicely with the spinach and tomato flavours.

It was a pity that the tables were a little dirty, yet it was obvious that the staff were run on their feet. The chairs have that sunken low feeling, and the decor definitely feels European, like you're in Italy. Despite the high traffic of people heading in and out back into Westfield Sydney, once you sit down, relax and enjoy, you forget about the noise factor. What was tremendously impressive was the quick service when it came to delivering both ordered items to my table. Highly recommended, simple pit stop paradise.
