Perth promises a truly unique experience to adventure seeking patrons. You will be locked in a room and given 60 minutes to find clues and solve all of the puzzles and escape before the buzzer sounds.

was styled after a genre of online click and point computer games called Escape the Room. These games involve a single room with a locked door, hidden clues, objects to interact with, secret compartments to find and a mystery to unravel. The goal is to escape the room before your time limit expires.

The popularity of these games led to the development of real-life escape rooms in Japan in 2007. They follow the same premise as the video games. You are locked in a sparsely decorated room and are given 60 minutes to search for clues and solve all of the puzzles and escape before your time expires.

is a global leader in escape the room live games. The company started back in 2013. Their first escape room opened in Bangkok in 2013. Since then they have expanded to have branches in over 36 cities and 27 countries worldwide. The Perth branch opened in September 2015. Their address is U29A/36 The Piazza, South Terrace Fremantle which puts them smack bang in the heart of Fremantle and just a five minute walk from the train station.

Currently the Escape Hunt Experience Perth has three different escape room experiences you can take part in: Poisoning in the Café, Escape from the Mine and The Lost Treasure of Captain Black Jack. Each of the games have a different difficulty level and a different success rate. Almost anyone can play. The rooms are suitable for tourists, corporate events, gamers, and friends and families. It is recommended that children under the age of 12 be accompanied by an adult in the room at all times. Sessions must be in groups with a minimum number of 2 participants and a maximum of 6. You can play in groups with as many as 30 people but you will be divided into teams of 6 players. It costs $84 for two people to play. The newest game at the Escape Hunt Experience Perth is the Lost Treasure of Captain Black Jack. It opened last month. I was invited to experience this game with two friends of mine. I went into the Escape Hunt Experience Perth filled with curiosity. I knew I was going to be stepping into a themed maze of sorts. I wondered if it might be a bit like the London Dungeon. I was a bit surprised when we entered the room. It was pretty sparsely decorated. I'd been expecting something a little bit more detailed. But I soon realized that looks were deceiving. A lot of effort went into creating the Lost Treasure of Captain Black Jack. The room looked bare but actually had a lot of layers contained within it. It was so complicated we failed to finish on time. When the buzzer rung we'd just managed to get out of the first room and were panicking over a table covered in maps in the second room when our time ran out.

The Lost Treasure of Captain Black Jack was a lot of fun. You start off wandering around in a daze feeling pretty dumb but eventually you start noticing little things here and little things there and eventually you will start to figure things out.

If you're looking for something new to do with friends or something to do for a birthday party I highly recommend you give the Escape Hunt Experience Perth a try.

Maybe you will do better than we did and find Captain Black Jack's treasure!
