I have just had the most amazing breakfast in a long, long time. Actually I can not think of a time when I have been wowed quite as much as I have today!

Alright, it is probably not what you think; eggs, toast, beans, bacon, avocado - a combination of the usual. No, I am talking about good old fashioned tapioca. Don't click away now, let me tell you more.

There was just the right amount of seeds. Toasted flaked almonds and pistachios adorned the dish. The fresh fruit was thinly sliced and I spotted a few different types of berries, not just the strawberries as mentioned on the menu. Tapioca not too sweet, not too gluggy but light and combined with the toppings just delightful. It was rich in coconut tropical flavour and the right serving size. It's called The Queenslander, at the Duchess of Spotwood.

I have a feeling that not the only 'wowing thing' on the menu either. The Duchess of Pork, Clam Scram or Breakfast of Champions all sound like blissful joy for some. You can drool over the menu here . There are plenty of sides to add to your meal and gluten free items are available on request.

We also ordered the Piccadili Circus, pictured above. The was salsa scrumptious - it was unfamiliar but it had the right combination of flavours and colours. A delightful companion to the hash and eggs. This was also declared 'the best breakie ever'.

Oh, and that's not all. The coffee was delightful. Served in mismatching crockery, and brewed with aromatic beans by a skilled barista.

St Germaine played in the background, a combination of house and jazz music, helping to create the relaxing ambience. The aroma of food and coffee finds you as soon you enter. There is plenty of seating out front, inside and out the back. The Duchess does breakfast and lunch seven days a week and they do not take weekend bookings. The sweets in the display cabinet looked delightfully tempting.

Let me tell you about the service. Impeccable. We were greeted and seated, we were genuinely smiled at, cared for and guided through the menu. Our experience was magnificent, We will be back again soon.

Thank-you Duchess, you may be in the shadow of the Westgate, but you are a star to us.
