Have you ever done an Ocean Swim? Donned the bathers, the fashionable boyancy wetsuit, got the coloured swimming cap on and taken to the water?

The Dromana SLC Bay Pier Swim is a little different to the others. Joanna Maidment explains that the swim "originated from three of us sitting around on patrol, talking about how we could raise some money. I am an open water swimmer addict, and we decided we should put on our own swim. It has certainly been hard work, as our club is small, but the swim has grown in popularity and the feedback afterwards tends to be about it being 'the friendly swim'."

Entries are limited to 500 for the big 1.2 swim, which is runs in age categories from 12 - 70 . Theres a nippers and novices race too, which is 600m in distance and a great way to begin doing the ocean swims.



This will be the 9th Dromana Bay Pier Swim. Its an adventurous day with plenty of athletic bodies and those that are healthy, yet havent spent a lifetime at the gym to prepare. Its a day worth taking part in. They do have life guards on boards all the way around the course, so there is plenty of support if you think you might be a bit weak kneed. If your not sure if your up to the swim, you can go along as a spectator and see if its something you could take part in next year.

The Dromana Aquaholics Swim Club are hoping that they can start building a real club house, after 6 years of planning and having been operating out of two shipping containers until now. Our Surf Lifesavers do a great job and this is one way we can help them! DLSC was established in 1997 and provides voluntary patrols in the Dromana area. Over 200 people are saved on Victorian Beaches on a busy weekend, with 1000s of volunteers on 67 beaches.
