Impromptu adventuring, exploring our backyard and then putting pen to paper, hoping to entice you to try one, if not all, of our escapades, is my true reward!

A Spirited Venue With Views
Welcome to The Wharf in Mooloolaba - Image: Elaine de Wet
I'm not sure if you have realised, but The Wharf in Mooloolaba has been undergoing some major revitalisation and been given a very much-needed facelift to what is a prime precinct, right in the heart of Mooloolaba overlooking the Mooloolah River.

Just in time for Christmas The Dock At The Wharf opened and we were fortunate to get a dinner booking on the same night as the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade! The fabulous new dynamic restaurant, The Dock, can cater for more than three hundred people with ease and sports three separate bar areas plus function rooms, that have been cleverly divided up with the use of furniture and plants. Covering a five hundred square metre area, The Dock offers a relaxed family friendly ambience, showcasing the spectacular riverside location.

To enter The Dock, visitors walk through a garden courtyard area, complete with cream-coloured umbrellas, overlooking the water and the 'enviable' boats that are docked there just for our viewing pleasure - they are, aren't they? Timber furniture and planter boxes are enhanced with ornamental lights from dusk, giving the whole courtyard area a festive feel, lending itself perfectly to a late afternoon sundowner or after-work catch-up drink.

The main section of The Dock is impressive, with high ceilings and plenty of windows, allowing natural light and welcoming breezes off the water to drift in and out. A large bar/island area takes central stage, surrounded by an array of bar tables and dining tables, all with spectacular views.

There are plenty of different style rooms, including a function-style room (this is the one we were lucky enough to secure) with picture-frame views over the water and the Christmas Parade. Visitors can select a beer - there are fifty-two beer taps with sixteen different top-quality beers available - on the way through to the rear of this new restaurant for additional seating i.e. bar stools to sit back and chill-lax while looking out over the Mooloolah River.

Hubby and I have now tried The Dock out a few times and if the entry garden courtyard area isn't enticing enough, to the right of the main entrance at The Dock is an awesome river bar - still part and parcel of The Dock - that has a variety of seating arrangements including bar stools and comfy lounge chairs. No matter where you choose to sit, you are guaranteed a stunning water or harbour view.

The river bar offers a diverse selection of cocktails and of course, your choice of designer beers. On every visit we have noticed that the river bar and the garden courtyard area have been extremely popular, buzzing with chit-chat and people enjoying the perfect location. But, no matter how many guests at The Dock, one never gets the impression of feeling crowded.

Okay, so we were at The Dock for dinner - not just the ambience, or the surroundings, or the scenery, or the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade but…for dinner. The Dock is open from 11.00am to midnight, seven days a week, and offers the quintessential venue for lunch, dinner, snacks or drinks. So, onto the all-important menu.

The Dock specialises in smoked meats and charcoal grills with tantalising offerings of fish, meat dishes, burgers and even a Kids Menu. To look at The Dock's specialities, please click here.

Being a Saturday night (Saturday night in our home is traditionally steak night) my choice was the Grilled, Grass-Fed Cotton Tree Poll Hereford 250g Eye Fillet (QLD) for $44. All steaks are garnished with beer-battered onion rings and green leaves with a choice of either a Mustard, Smokey Jus or Chimichurri Sauce.

Much to every chef's chagrin, I always order my steak well-done (yes, I know it shows a total lack of appreciation as to how one should correctly eat a steak), but my argument is 'if the chef is happy to accommodate my quirky requests, then he or she is definitely a keeper'! Our meals were promptly delivered, the staff were super-friendly and attentive and my steak was cooked as requested - perhaps slightly over-done! Extra kudos to hubby who, after thirty-two years together, really knows how I like my steak!
The Dock At The Wharf is an excellent venue for special occasions - Image: Elaine de Wet
The Dock at The Wharf is an excellent venue for lunch, dinner, drinks or snacks to curb those munchies, always with a guarantee of superb water views. Looking to celebrate a special occasion in your life? I would suggest The Dock as a unique, dynamic location with an energetic vibe - and you won't be able to go past those impressive views! A very large public parking area ensures that parking doesn't pose too much of a problem as there always seem to be spaces available.
Me 'participating' in the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade - Images: Elaine de Wet
I loved the idea that I could 'participate' in the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade, without jostling for a position amongst the crowds - enjoy dinner and still be in a position to enjoy the ambience of a stunning new venue and an exciting community event. A superb location, awesome atmosphere and a spirited (excuse the pun) venue - I highly recommend a visit to the newly opened The Dock - At The Wharf.
PS Extended trading until 2.00am for New Year's Eve!
