This November Australia will have the opportunity to witness a turbulent tale of love, power and music: 'The Devil's Violinist'. The most recent film directed by Bernard Rose (Anna Karenina, Boxing Day, Immortal Beloved) and starring International Music Star David Garrett, tells the story of the Italian violinist and composer Niccolo Paganini, in a fanciful but very well set period-film style movie.
Rose wanted to show Paganini as the first rock star in the history of music, and to tell the story of this virtuoso's life from this perspective.Paganini has a misunderstood thirst for love and life. He was tagged as rabid womaniser, gambler and drunk, who was filled with his own ego spending his time between concerts and engaging in all manner of illicit and ill-advised pursuits. World recognised as one of the most famous and controversial musicians who ever lived, at the peak of his career, one city remains to be conquered by his charms: London.
London will definitely mark Paganini's life for good. The glory and tragedy, the love and lust, the music in the most faultless performances by a violinist, will unleash a whole blast of feelings and sensations over the crowd. The cast also counts with the participation of Jared Harris, Joely Richardson, Christian McKay, Veronica Ferres, Helmut Berger, Olivia d'Abo, Andrea Deck.
This film is David Garrett's debut as an actor. Maybe we can notice it from time to time but obviously, as soon as he put his hands over the violin, one forgets about it and lets the beautiful accords spoil the senses. If you are a fan of Bernard Rose and the work of Paganini, you should definitely give it a chance.
