Located at Migration Museum, 82 Kintore Avenue, Adelaide, at the site of the Destitute Asylum Lying-in Home where 1,678 babies were born between 1880 and 1909. Could you possibly discover that you have had ancestors who were born right here in the former hospital you are visiting?

A special curator’s tour of the building on Mother’s Day, Sunday, 11 May 2025, starting from 3 pm to 4 pm, has been arranged to remember the babies and their unwed, widowed and deserted expectant mothers who were housed here. Experience touching and unusual highlights of some of the poor, lonely and sometimes desperate women, and even some tragic stories of them and their children.

Book here to get your FREE tickets. Please note that this tour is not suitable for children under 12 years.
