Having successfully run the Eire Cafe in Clapham, the owners have now taken over the business of The Deli. The Deli has undergone an extensive revamp, bringing it back to life in a bigger, better, and brighter space!

Owners Zoi and Steve were absolutely lovely and made me feel warmly welcome in their new abode. The staff were so friendly that it felt like a feast was in order to celebrate the love all-round! There is an inviting sense of space in all aspects of the cafe. Having sections of indoor and outdoor seating, The Deli offers a variety of options to provide with a private or more social form of fine dining. There is lots of natural lighting that emanates from every corner, so you can be assured with lots of fresh air and gentle breezes.

While I had never visited The Deli before it was under the current management, I can tell that a lot of hard work was put into making this place loved and wanted again. The customers who walked in during my visit were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful interior design, which has a beautiful mix of modernity and rustic, vintage touches.

For my lunch, I ordered the smashed avocado with feta and chili. It was imperative that I go for an avocado option because of my never ending love for what is possibly the greatest fruit out there. I loved the slice of bread that had been toasted perfectly. Coupled with it was a super smooth and creamy whole avocado, which melted in my mouth. For all the avocado lovers out there - this dish will be like Christmas in your mouth!

I also couldn't look past the Southern fried chicken with coleslaw and spiced stuffing. The bread was the perfect accompaniment to counterbalance the delicious spiciness from the chicken. I loved that the meat underneath the crispy perfection outside was moist and tender. It's a great appetizer to enjoy with a beer or a cider on a warm, summery day.

The Gumbo is another dish that I tried and fell in love with, because I hadn't been feeling particularly flash on the day that I visited the Deli. This is a fantastic dish to have, especially on a rainy day, because the ingredients in the Gumbo act as a natural medicine to help you feel much better! The zing from the tomato sauce worked well with the smoked bacon, chorizo, pickle, okra, poached egg and homemade bread. It is a rich dish that works well both with and without the bread.

Of course, this feast would not be complete without some sweetness at the end of the meal now, would it? I opted for the hotcakes with honeycomb cream and banana. I agree - it looks ordinary on presentation, but I have to say that I was blown away at how delectable this end-meal was! The honeycomb cream coupled with the banana slices added to the subtle sweetness in the hotcakes, which worked well with the icing sugar that was perfectly dusted on it.

Upon speaking with the owners, I learned that they were going for a chill and relaxed vibe, similar to cafes and restaurants in Melbourne. I was particularly pleased at seeing how street art in an abandoned lane had inserted itself into the gorgeous backdrop of the outdoor seating area of the Deli. The price range is average and very affordable, if you're looking for a decent meal with quality. While it may be tucked away in the quieter part of Adelaide, the tram ride there is well worth it!
