It's always a treat when you find a place that caters as well for children as it does the adults. The Deck at the Glen Hotel is one such place.

Within the Glen Hotel are several different sections and different restaurants with their own styles. We found The Deck to be the most accommodating, child-friendly and casual. The Deck stretches around the outside of the hotel, as well as having lots of seating in the spacious interior. If you have children with you, it is the wooden deck at the side, or the seating at the end of the veranda that are the prize spots, as these areas border a small, fenced playground. We were able to enjoy some uninterrupted adult conversation and refreshments, while the kids climbed and swung and ran around safely within our view and earshot (but not too close). It was perfect for both the adults and children.

The food at the Deck is great quality, pub-bistro fare, all very reasonably priced. Lunch is served daily from 11.30am - 2.30pm and dinner from a child-friendly 5.30pm until 9pm. A near-necessity for every good hotel, the Deck offers specials most nights on different dinner options.

Mondays and Thursdays see a great quality $11 steak meal; Tuesday offers $10 for a large wood-fired pizza. Fisherman's baskets and chicken cheese schnitzels are also part of the daily specials and a roast dinner is presented almost every night too. Every visit to the Glen Hotel has always bought us excellent food and service, with generous servings of delicious beer-battered chips and a big, fresh salad served with many of the meals, including the delicious rump steaks and chicken parmigianas.

The children's meals are also excellent quality standard pub-bistro meals, including wood-fired pizza ($9.90), barramundi and chips ($12.90), lasagne ($8.90) and the obligatory chicken nuggets and chips. The children's meals are all very reasonably priced, ranging from the chicken nuggets under $8 to the most expensive item - the BBQ ribs or sirloin steak at only $13.90. On Sundays, a good selection of children's meals are totally free . A small bag of goodies with colouring pencils, stickers and puzzles are also given out with the children's meals to keep the younger ones occupied if they choose to take a break from the playground. For older children, The Glen Hotel also has a Kids Room with movies and playstation consoles.

Throughout the year, generally on Sundays, the Glen Hotel hosts Free Family Fun Days. Kids activities run from 12 - 3pm and can include an animal farm and pony rides. Music for the parents starts from 2pm. See the Glen Hotel website for more details on the next Free Family Fun Day.

As an extra bonus (as if you needed one after the good food, excellent service and entertainment for children) the Glen Hotel offers free Wi-Fi and also caters for large parties and functions at the Deck with a mouth-watering set menu.

Here's an interesting historical fact, the Glen Hotel was the last stop into Brisbane for the old Cobb & Co Coaches, representing exactly eight miles from Brisbane. So whether from a historical point of view, or simply for the relaxed atmosphere and the fact that the children are well occupied and love the food, we will definitely frequent the beautiful old Glen Hotel.
