As part of their ongoing Cult Film Classics in the House theme, Event Cinemas will be hosting a double screening of two beloved cult classics, The Dark Crystal (1982) and Labyrinth (1986), at Event Cinemas Innaloo on September 3 and September 5.

The Dark Crystal is a fantasy film about Jen, an elf-like creature called a Gelfling, who goes on a quest to find a lost shard belonging to the powerful, but broken, legendary Dark Crystal. Jen hopes that if he can find and return the shard to the Dark Crystal, that the power of the gem will save his world.

The Dark Crystal was directed by Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets, and puppeteer and actor Frank Oz, who is famous for being the voice behind Miss Piggy and Yoda.

The Dark Crystal received mixed to positive reviews from critics when released. The film was praised for its special effects, and its use of animatronics and puppetry were considered groundbreaking at the time.

As years passed, the film started to grow more popular, and it eventually became a cult classic. In 2008, the American Film Institute nominated the film for its Top 10 Fantasy Films list.

Labyrinth is a musical fantasy film about a fifteen-year-old girl called Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) who is jealous of her little brother Toby and the attention that he gets from their parents. In a moment of childishness, she wishes that Toby would disappear. Her wish is granted and Toby is whisked away to a magical realm by a man called Jareth the Goblin King. The King transports Sarah to his world and gives her thirteen hours to solve his labyrinth and find Toby before he is turned into a goblin forever.

Labyrinth was directed by Jim Henson and had George Lucas as an executive director and featured the talented Frank Oz again. The film received mixed reviews upon release and failed to make a profit, but just like the Dark Crystal it later developed a strong fan following and is now considered a cult classic.

If you would be interested in seeing the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth in a double screening tickets will be $12.00 for Cinebuz Members and all other tickets will be $15.00. The double feature will start with the Dark Crystal at 6.30pm and Labyrinth will start at 9.30pm.
