Sydney's hottest new vegetarian restaurant opens its doors
Sydney has eagerly welcomed its newest vegetarian restaurant, the Dandylion, in Bondi. Despite only opening their doors at the end of January 2015, the Dandylion is already making its mark on the Sydney food scene and serving up to capacity crowds.

The inspiration, for the creators behind the Dandylion, came from their experiences sampling vegetarian and vegan delights from around the world. The Dandylion aims to promote vegetarian dining in Sydney as a fun and flavoursome experience. And they are doing it extremely well!

I had the pleasure of dining at the Dandylion for dinner on Valentine's Day. It had the perfect ambience for the occasion. We were met by friendly staff and a welcoming open space, with a mix of high-bench booth-style seating at the front, and sit-down tables at the rear of the restaurant. The interior décor includes recycled oregon timber and railway sleepers.

The menu is creative and well-considered. My only problem was trying to narrow down the options and choose just one thing! It proved too difficult to do, so in the end we went with the watermelon carpaccio with wild rocket, walnuts, and piquant vegan cheese; the Dandy plate to share (Moroccan olives, marinated grilled veggies, harissa asparagus, hummus and tahini, dukkah barley, quinoa, and stuffed vegetables); and a side of Cajun fried okra. The food was delicious, with special mention going to the watermelon carpaccio salad, which was an absolute treat to the taste buds.

The serving sizes are generous and, in hindsight, we probably ordered too much food for two people. Despite this, I somehow mustered up the courage for dessert (there's always room for dessert right?!). I ordered the vegan and gluten-free lime 'cheese' cake, evidence that you don't need any animal products to make delicious desserts.

The Dandylion has a prime location at 277 Bondi Road, Bondi. It is open for breakfast and lunch on weekends, and dinner every night except Tuesday. Get in before the rest of Sydney finds out!
