Looking for an ideal spot of brunch that offers up some great food that's more than your usual smashed avo on toast? South Melbourne's The Crux & Co is the perfect spot.



After its opening just a few months ago, it's already become Instagram-famous with their cabinets full of colourful and creative sweets. All the pastries and sweets are made in-house and the choices are likely to give you a bit of decision paralysis so come along intending to sample a few. You'll find everything from macarons, eclairs, cakes and the recently popular 'croggle' (a croissant-bagel hybrid).



Here the breakfast/lunch menu certainly skews from the average cafe fare. You'll find menu items such as the Scotch quail egg with arrancini and falafel with potato rosti, a mixed bean and chilli concasse, but it was their signature 'Bisque Benedict' with tiger prawns, poached eggs and a lobster bisque hollandaise sauce served on squid ink bread that's getting them noticed. And for great reason.



Located on Albert Rd, just of St Kilda Rd, The Crux & Co is buzzing no matter when you arrive, but the feel inside is exactly the type of spot you'd want to enjoy a catch up with friends or family, a leisurely weekend breakfast or a reward brunch for walking the Tan on a weekend.

We also tried the vegetarian breakfast with eggs, avocado, grilled asparagus, feta, grilled kale and spinach and sautéed mushrooms on toast (below).



Those who are keen to try a bit of everything can order up the breakfast board with the house-made 'croggle', an eclair/macaron, cream of coconut, chia seeds, fresh fruit and orange juice and not regret a thing.

Come along for a late morning treat, sit inside and enjoy the bright and sunny interior with a good book and treat yourself!
