Budding mini musicians will have a great time experimenting with all the gadgets on display at The Corner in The State Library of Queensland at the moment. There is always a new, fun theme in The Corner, and the current musical theme, "A-Live and B-Sides" is bound to keep kids amused for hours. This is the place to come and celebrate the soundtrack of children's lives.
As soon as you enter The Corner, there is a touch sensitive disco floor which lights up as you dance to the beat. You are welcome to try several different head phones to dance to a new tune. Wander down the ramp and there are pipes with speaker phones attached, to experiment with sound travelling through space. There are musical themed mats for smaller children to relax on, plenty of drums to bang and colourful notes hanging from the ceiling.
As usual, there are crazy dress ups and a drawing/cutting/gluing station set up with staff on hand (daily from 10am - 3pm) to assist with any tricky craft maneuvers. For parents and carers, there are interesting snippets of research on the walls about the benefits of listening to music with your children, and the effects of singing on bonding and the growing brain.
Please note: as of October 6, 2013, a new exhibition has opened in The Corner. The latest theme is Land, Sea and Sky and it is also highly recommended with lots of dress ups and new activities for kids.
