Interactive theatre thriller with a sinister secret
The Confidence Man
Theatre with a difference

Imagine being able to eavesdrop on the inner-most thoughts of a theatre character, in a show where audience members also become the cast.

Impossible? Not any more.

The Confidence Man recruits six audience members directly into the cast, while the remaining audience views the action, with the help of an audio score.

The Confidence Man is described as a gripping thriller. The story begins when a large sports bag full of cash is brought into Peter's suburban home. This event threatens to impact Peter's family, triggering a deeply sinister chain of events including betrayal, villainy and greed.

Six audience/cast members will be equipped with a headset and oversized mask representing their character. By way of recorded soundtrack, narration and dialogue, each character will be instructed in movements, gestures and physicality towards other players.

Audience members are the cast, directed by pre-recorded soundtrack

But never fear, if you're not one of the six audience/cast members, you will still be intimately engaged in the process.

Remaining audience members will be privy to the characters' most private thoughts and conversations via headphones. As in life, no one individual will know the full version of the story.

The Confidence Man re-imagines the possibilities for interactive theatre, and is the brain child of Zoe Pepper and Adriane Daff of Side Pony Productions (WA).

Each performance will last 60 minutes without interval, and can accommodate just 30 audience members. Tickets are available online here or by calling 03 9322 3713.

Your Comment
The concept sounds great, but I'm not sure how pc the masks are. They look like gollywogs.
