QV Melbourne is running a summer film program during February at its outdoor pop up cinema. Movies are being shown at the cinema every Thursday to Sunday evening until 28th February.

Located at QV Square (level 2) of QV Melbourne, situated at the intersection of Swanston and Lonsdale Streets in the CBD, QV cinema is a boutique venue, with just 75 deck chair seats available. (Wheelchair access is also available). QV Cinema is a silent cinema where patrons are provided with individual wireless headphones and audio kits for the film, allowing patrons to sit back, relax in a deck chair and enjoy a movie under the stars.

QV Cinema is hosting a special event at 8.45pm on Friday 19th February. Cult Irish film The Commitments (1991) is playing with complimentary themed pre-film cocktails served by a top mixologist. Dubbed 'The Spirit of Dublin', the cocktail takes its inspiration from the film itself and is made with Dublin's own Teeling Whiskey , a boutique whiskey that has a lot of synergies with the film.

The cocktail was created by top bartender and Dublin native, Kevin Griffin, as a tribute to his home town. Kevin grew up close to the Teeling distillery and will be at the screening, mixing and serving the cocktails to match the movie.

Martin Lynch, whiskey warrior and brand ambassador for Teeling Whiskey, programmed The Commitments when QV cinema asked him for a cool Irish film.

The Commitments is a story of a soul band and their rise to fame. Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins), just out of school, gets a brilliant idea: to put a band together in his slum home in north Dublin. Things slowly start to come together when he finds three fine-voiced females virtually in his back yard, a lead singer (Deco) at a wedding, and, responding to his ad, an aging trumpet player, Joey "The Lips" Fagan. Song by song, gig by gig, the Commitments start their climb to the top: Dublin gets soul. But internal strife also builds: Deco is insufferable, Joey's a Casanova, and Jimmy may be unable to hold things together. Will the Commitments slip away?

The Commitments is rated M and the running time is 118 minutes.

A standard ticket (includes pre-film cocktail) is $13. There are also various packages available, such as the Grill'd beer and burger deal ($26) or the Movenpick tasting basket package deal ($25.95). Click here to view all package options and to buy tickets online.
