Comedy that will bring you to tears (In a good way)
Having just been to The Comic's Lounge a couple of nights ago, I am absolutely thrilled to tell you of the high quality comedy that I saw. There were three comedians and an MC. The MC was great, and the headline act (Glen Wool, a Canadian who is currently living in the UK and touring Australia) was hilarious.
As a hint of how great the comedy here tends to be, let me tell you how many people The Comic's Lounge is able to sit: A few hundred, mostly on tables of 6. Furthermore, this last show I was at was the first one I've been to that wasn't absolutely packed. That's right, the comedians are so funny that they can routinely sell out a few hundred seats.
However, while the comedy is fantastic, I must also mention the venue's food and drinks. The food, while good, is certainly over priced. We had a plate of arancini, which consisted of 4 fried balls of rice. While quite tasty, it cost a full $12 - or $3 per ball of rice. I would definitely recommend eating before arriving, and then perhaps splitting a dessert while at the show. Alcohol, well, its at the price you'd expect, approximately $6 per glass of wine.
One further budgeting tip: The Comic's Lounge often sells vouchers on the various daily deal websites, so keep your eyes peeled for those if you can't afford the $25 per show price tag. Furthermore, at the show they often sell year long double passes for $60 - So if you think you'll attend just two more shows in a year, then I highly recommend buying this. Especially since these double passes often include other bonuses.
Overall I give this venue four out of five stars - and five out of five if I was just measuring on the comedy, the lack of one star on the overall is just that it is expensive on a student budget - unless you buy a voucher, either online or from them after the show.
