The Comic's Lounge on North Melbourne's Errol Street operates six nights a week and is the home of stand up comedy, improvisation and sketch shows in Melbourne during the International Comedy Festival and all other months of the year.
A night at the Comic's Lounge starts at 7pm with a reasonably priced two or single course meal or at 8pm with the show if you wish to dine elsewhere. Snacks and desert can be ordered before the show or during interval from red-shirted waiters that flit around between tables and are rather difficult to flag down.
The typical show starts sometime after eight, and goes for around three hours. The majority of seating is arranged around tables which are perpendicular to the stage, so if you are attending as one of a couple prepare to be seated opposite each other on a table of strangers. The seating arrangement also requires slightly uncomfortable twisting to view the stage, making the intervals a much required chance to stretch and massage sore necks.
Awkward seating aside, entertainment is a given, with the variety of shows and comedians throughout the week providing a mix of talent and styles which are always amusing and often absolutely hilarious. When the jokes and the drinks start flowing the entertainment is endless and very affordable. With a myriad free tickets, vouchers and package deals floating around it is easy to arrange a night or year's worth of comedy for very little cost.
