Where in Sydney can you watch 7 comedy acts for $16?
The Comedy Store Showcase is a weekly show held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in The Entertainment Quarter. Most shows start after dinner times and with The Entertainment Quarter being considered one of the best dining precincts in Sydney, the show is perfectly prefaced with a meal out. If you arrive at the venue early, worry not! There is an excellently themed bar where you can sit and enjoy a drink.
The showcase runs for 1.5 hours with no interval. For us, this time saw 6 comedians and 1 MC, totalling 7 acts for a bargain price of $32.50. Each night of the week varies in price, with Thursday night being the cheapest at $16!
The cast was as diverse as they come, varying in ages, genders and comedic style. This variety meant the showcase was relatable to all audience members at some stage or another and the show always felt fresh. For me, the young female comedian whose routine focussed on baths was most enjoyable and the gentleman whose ten-minute routine consisted of nothing but one-liners certainly had some gold.
The chairs were uncomfortable, being small in structure and upholstered in a faux leather which you slid down. However, near each chair was a well thought out buzzer which alerted the bar to your desire to purchase a drink, which was very convenient. The bar staff were exceptionally well trained and so discrete that they were only noticed at one time in the show. The drinks themselves ranged from the traditional beer and wine to moreish cocktails such as the Raspberry Rose Royale (consisting of Hendrick's gin, champagne and raspberry).
The stage is raised, which has the result of the comedian being visible from most places in the room. This is particularly good for those who prefer to sit further away from the comedians where they cannot be pulled into the comedians routine. For those brave at heart, if you sit in the front row you are guaranteed to be asked questions from the comedian.
