Buy beautiful handmade gifts and pay the artisan direct
This is my favourite store in Brisbane and I have frequented it more times than I should admit. The Collective Store is in seaside suburb, Wynnum, and it has been trading for around four years now and still picking up momentum. From an elegant pair of hand-crafted silver earrings to a gorgeous glass terrarium or hand-blended chai tea, there's always something new and interesting to be found here. I often leave with more than I set out to purchase but I'm always delighted with all the special things I've bought in the past. There's never a thought of buyer's remorse!
This is a unique shop for all handmade artisans whereby they rent a space and receive 100% of their profits at the end of each month. Owner and manager, Leonie helps them to display their beautiful products so they are shown in their best light and so customers can find the perfect gift or trinket to take home with them. When you buy an item at The Collective Store you are directly supporting Australian artisans so it's a great way to do some Christmas shopping with a conscience.
It's also a really eco-friendly practice to purchase from this store as a variety of artists who stock the shelves are keen green crafters. Many use recycled objects to make them into new and exciting pieces of art.
Art and Craft workshops are a new addition to the shop with an array of fantastic classes to choose from. With classes such as Wool Felted Bowls and Weave a Wall Hanging, you could make some of your own gifts to give this Christmas. There are also great Kid's Art and Kid's Sewing Machine License classes which will give your little ones something to do after school and during the holidays.
I usually make a day of it and visit The Collective Store, Zillpa (a beautiful store just a few doors down) and the fantastic op shops which are just around the corner. Then I get fish and chips and sit by the ocean for a little while to soak up some sun. It's a fantastic day out, you won't be disappointed!
