The Coffee Club at Gepps Cross is one of several branches in Adelaide that offers a wide range of cafe-style food. It was popular with the locals, there was a crowd of a good size when we visited.
Their Flat Grill selection consists of your chosen filling warmed inside a tortilla. The mushrooms in the Mushroom, Tomato and Pesto Flat Grill retained some bite and the tomato and spinach complemented it nicely. Pesto sauce brings out the ingredients’ flavour and vegan aioli makes it suitable for vegans. The accompanying salad was dressed in a delectable tangy dressing.

The strips of grilled chicken breast in the Mexican Chicken Salad were cooked just right with a good amount of char. Avocado, corn and tomato provided a contrast of texture from the shredded cos lettuce, and corn chips added a lovely crunchy element. The chipotle mayonnaise dressing had a delectable smoky flavour with a degree of spiciness suitable for most tastes. We were able to request to have the grated cheese served on the side.

When ordering their Big Breakfast, diners have the choice of picking how they want their eggs to be done. The eggs that we chose to have scrambled were light and fluffy, and the strips of bacon were not overcooked. The chipolata sausages were cooked to perfection, and the generous portion of mushrooms was juicy. Completing the dish were a fluffy hash brown, ciabatta toast, smashed avocado and cherry tomatoes. The smoky tomato relish was also served with the dish.

The chicken schnitzel in the Chicken Schnitzel Club Sandwich had succulent flesh which was set off nicely by the crisp crumb coating. Coleslaw provided freshness to the sandwich and the chipotle sauce was mild enough for those not used to spicy foods. Served with the sandwich were crisp and fluffy chips that were not over-salted.

Another of their sandwich dishes, the rump steak in the Rump Steak Sandwich was not too tough and mustard added a sharp flavour to the dish. Garlic aioli balanced out the mustard and a fresh element was provided by tomato, red onion and lettuce. Like the Chicken Schnitzel Club Sandwich, it came with a serving of chips.

Their Corn & Zucchini Fritters were fried to golden brown. The corn and zucchini gave the fritters a firm texture. The fritters were not too dry and the smashed avocado complemented it nicely. The poached egg had a lovely runny yolk and spinach and tomatoes provided a fresh element. Served with the dish was the same tomato relish that came with their Big Breakfast.

For those who cannot wait for their main dishes, there is a selection of savoury pastries that are heated up prior to being served. The pastry of the Chicken & Mushroom Filo was crisp and light and the chunks of chicken and mushroom were of a good size. The sauce binding the filling had a creamy taste that was not too strong.

In addition to their main menu, the cafe also offers a good range of cakes and pastries. Their Orange & Almond Loaf had a firmer texture compared to normal cakes while still retaining some moisture. The cake had the degree of orange flavour we expected and flaked almonds on the top provided a bit of crunch. If you desire, you can request for it to be heated up.

To our delight, the Nero Mud Cake had a nice lightness to it with a chocolatey taste that was not too sweet. The chocolate icing and glaze enhanced the chocolate flavour. The glaze was decorated with streaks of chocolate. Completing the look was a square of chocolate secured by a blob of icing.

Their muffins were filling enough for one and were moist. The chunks of apple in the Apple & Blueberry Muffin retained some texture and had a delectable cinnamon taste. Blueberries added a hint of sweetness and the crumble topping added a bit of crunch.

The Raspberry and White Chocolate Muffin was firmer than the Apple & Blueberry Muffin while still being moist. For those concerned about its sweetness, it was not too overwhelming. The slightly tart raspberries mixed throughout helped to balance out the sweetness of the white chocolate.

Their Double Choc Muffin had the degree of chocolate flavour we expected. Chocolate chips enhanced its flavour. It is particularly good eaten heated up to slightly melt the chocolate chips.

The decor of the cafe gave it a cosy feel with diners having the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Parking is not an issue with the carpark close to the cafe’s location offering plenty of off-street parking.
